Prehistoric artists would place their hands on cave walls and blow pigment, leaving behind a rendering of their own hand’s likeness on the stone. I believe these artworks show a new type of awareness of one’s consciousness 25,000 years ago. I often find myself looking at my own hands, trying to comprehend my own consciousness, which always leads to impossible questions with ever-changing answers. Much like our 25,000-year-old ancestors, I too traced my hand, adding dreamy (or nightmarish, to some) motifs to encompass these questions and the absurdity of our existence.
The mouth allows us to breathe, to eat, to speak truths and untruths, to ask questions, and to test our curiosities. The eyes are the windows to the soul and allow us to see into one another. Spiders are magical beings, able to spin beautiful webs—literally spinning life. Yellow and gold are colors often used to depict divine beings, but they are also signs of caution.
This piece explores the idea that sitting with the mystery of being human is more meaningful than trying to solve it.
Piece is sold unframed and shipped in a reinforced flat mailer.
