This piece was drawn by hand on handmade recycled paper using a mostly blind contour technique. Blind contour drawing is a practice where the artist focuses on the subject rather than the page, allowing the line to move continuously and intuitively. In this case, I let the pen wander while only occasionally checking the page every few seconds to see where the drawing had taken me.
The result is a loose, wandering line that builds a face with a door on its forehead—two extra eyes quietly looking out. The piece plays with the idea of perception and the strange ways we see ourselves and are seen by others.
Each mark is unedited and permanent, capturing the small surprises and imperfections that come from drawing in the moment.
Piece is sold unframed and shipped in a reinforced flat mailer.
